AB  - The study recapitulates the most important works of two representatives of Czech Baroque sculpture, Andreas Philipp Quitainer (1679-1729) and his son Johann Anton Quitainer (1709-1765). It expounds on the shared elements of their sculpting style and the differences between their works. Among the first it includes a keen plastic sense which characterised the work of the elder Quitainer and was also his son's stylistic point of departure. As an independent creative contribution from the younger master it mentions, in particular, the decorative rendering of surfaces and some composition innovations (a rising gyrating movement), which is probably related to Quitainer's stay abroad in the early 1740s. The study also considers certain aspects unrelated to art: It puts forward a hypothesis about the North Moravian origin of the Quitainer family, evidences that sculpture had in this family a deep-rooted tradition spanning more than two generations, and characterises both artists from the viewpoint of their social standing and social relations.
