There are ten such listed cultural monuments within Prague. The most significant are the columns of The Holy Trinity in Malostranske square and of Undefiled Virgin Mary in Hradcanske square, erected in 1713-1736 to commemorate the ending of the plague from which they gain the name of 'Plague columns'. They are all made of various Bohemian sandstones, but the Holy Trinity column is further embellished with various decorative marbles. This article is the first work summarising this outstanding Prague sculptural art form, focusing mainly on the material characteristics and repairs undertaken on them. ER
